Richard Martinson: Part of My World
October 12 – November 4, 2017
The Arts Center Gallery.
Admission is free and open to the public.
Martinson is a self-taught artist who began dabbling in painting in 1986 while temporarily laid-off from work. His subjects come from a lifetime of experience, including time as a farmer and rancher, driving trucks from coast to coast and working in highway construction all across the West..
Now retired, as a snowbird he follows the seasons, traveling full-time in his studio equipped RV from North Dakota to Arizona. He enjoys painting the lay of the land from prairie to desert, points of interest and covering the past to the present.
He says, “I’ve seen a lot and have been many places. I hope to share what I’ve seen with everyone. The way I see it, now that I’m in my seventies, I better get it done.”
His work is reminiscent of folk art, simple and understated. He depicts the western and rural way of life, including the characters that go along with it.
This exhibition is sponsored by the North Dakota Council on the Arts, which receives funding from the State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.
