Radiosity works by Micah Bloom
Exhibiting: July 27 – September 2, 2023
Radiosity is 50 years late to the party, it is inspired by the Light & Space art movement that blossomed in California during the 1960–70s. Still, the wonder of light and color captivates him and requires further personal exploration.
In Radiosity, the physical is colorless, white on white, so the light becomes substance in color. Like an audio recording or a photograph, the possibility to hear or see the original source is substituted with a second-hand experience. Prevention is intentional, so the viewer is restrained from seeing color as pigment. Curiosity is piqued when access is denied.
What does this mean? The faint, indirect color in these sculptures may represent a dawning or a promise…or it may just be a cool rainbow glow.
Micah Bloom is an artist and educator, and he lives in Minot, ND, teaching at Minot State University. Bloom holds an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Iowa and has been selected for numerous artist–in–residence fellowships. His works have been published in literary and art journals…blah, blah, blah. Married for 22 years, Micah and his wife, Sara, share four daughters and two sons, and they all love making things…and reading artist bios.
