When Kevin Locke is here for the Downtown Arts Market he will be offering an Indigenous Flute Workshop (1.5-2 hr long) where he provides all materials, assembles the flute per person, teaches the flute songs and leaves the people at a level of competency that they can practice songs from an instructional song book he composed.

Flute Workshop offerings was initially geared specifically towards delivering Indigenous flute curriculum to schools in Dakota territory, however with phenomenal success, Kevin has expanded the activity to children, youth and adults everywhere. Kevin was recently in Panama City, Panama and completed a number of these workshops with Indigenous children and youth as part of a US Embassy sponsored tour in Panama. This is a great opportunity experience Indigenous flute and its original and authentic tuning and the opportunity to learn from a Master Flute Artist. This workshop is offered for FREE. Children must be at least 8 years of age to participate.

Those enrolled in the Indigenous Flute Workshop will have the option to participate in Kevin’s performance at the Downtown Arts Market . This program which begins at 5:45 is the captivating, educational and participatory Hoop of Life Program incorporating Indigenous Flute music samples from the prairies and beyond, Sign Language, Prayer songs in Lakota language, story telling and much more.
