One of the worlds greatest Pop, Jazz and Song writers was born Norma Egstrom
in Jamestown, North Dakota on May 26, 1920. She spent time in Nortonville,
Wimbledon and at the age of 16, was hired to sing at Valley City’s KOVC Radio.
She received her stage name “Peggy Lee” singing on Fargo’s WDAY Radio. At age 21, she was a member
of the Benny Goodman Orchestra. She became an international celebrity and a North Dakota treasure!
Peggy never forgot her North Dakota roots.

Wimbledon Midland Railroad and The Peggy Lee Museum
The VCSU Alumni Foundation has set-up a Peggy Lee Music Scholarship
which stipulates a class be taught about her life and music.
The third Friday of June will be an annual Peggy Lee Day in Valley City
which is a free event and kickoff for Rally in the Valley.
